In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Burning Down the House.”
Your home is on fire. Grab five items (assume all people and animals are safe). What did you grab? – Daily Prompt
I HAVE been in a house fire and I will tell you right now you don’t think about grabbing five things. In fact, the only thing a person should think of is to GET OUT. (I personally had to break my bedroom window and crawl out).
If you are a person that is going to grab five things before you get out of the burning building then you aren’t one of the brightest bulbs on the block. But, just say you are and you want to grab five things; well… by the time you grab that third, fourth or fifth thing then you don’t need to worry about escaping because it will be too late.
This wasn’t a very smart prompt if WordPress wants to teach their clients “how to stay alive in the event of a fire.” You just lost all your clients while they were grabbing five things in a fire. As for me, I waited until the fire was out before I submitted my response to the prompt. :o)

Ha! Well said!
Thank you. 😀
OH PJ!! You literally took the words out of my mouth! I don’t need to write my post now! 🙂 Sorry you had to go through a house fire also!
Thank you JR but I do believe you need to write your post. I would love to read it! It is a terrible thing to be caught in a fire. I am sorry that you had to too.
I took your advice PJ and wrote it, just posted it 🙂 Thanks! It is a terrible thing, fortunately it didn’t destroy our whole house. I hope it didn’t yours either.
Yes, it did. We had to rebuild. It was a terrible thing that turned out good. 🙂 I’m going to go read yours. ((Hugs!!)) xoxo
I’d grab the cat, then my husband. 🙂
Absolutely. Cat first. Hahaha! Just kidding.
Lol! This made me laugh..I love that you can say you’ve learned from experience. I’ve never been in a fire but I will keep in mind what you just described 🙂
It is very very frightening!
Good Message PJ! 🙂
Thank you Jodi! It’s the truth. 🙂
I nominated you for the Versatile Bloggers Award! Please follow the link for info:)https://theexceptionaleveryday.wordpress.com/
Thank you for thinking of me but my blog is an Award Free Blog. It is stated underneath the title. Again, thank you for thinking of me.
PJ you are PRICELESS!!!! So sorry you had to go through that, So happy you are ok. I will heed your warning and if it ever happens to my family, I will remember to just GET OUT! Thank you for your common sense 🙂
Thank you so much for the kind comment! I think you are wise to realize that getting yourself and your family out, in the event of a fire, is important and nothing else matters.
Seriously. What use is anything without your life?
LOL !! That is right! Stupid prompt. haha!!
haha.. very well said! But sorry to hear about the house fire.
It was my mom’s house and she got a brand new house with brand new furniture and accessories. It turned out to be a good thing.
so it says there is a silver lining in every cloud 🙂
Indeed, at least it was in this case.
🙂
Yes, it was a frightening experience. It happened to be my mother’s house and she was gone at the time. She was well insured and got a brand new house will all new furnishings, so it went from a terrible thing to a good thing. 🙂
>
Thumbs up to you PJ:)
It’s very hard to keep yourself cool and calm in the time of crisis. Such tragic incidents do not require prior planning. It’s only a spur of a moment in which the decisions are made.
Yes it is! And my fire saw the back end of my bottom as I dived out the window. Haha 😀
May God save everyone from such horrible incidents!
Indeed !!
I woke up and heard crackling outside my door. My bedroom door had been closed which saved my life. I tried to turn on the bedroom lamp and it would not come on. At that instant I realized the house was on fire, it was outside my bedroom door and had already gotten to the electrical system. I broke my bedroom window and dove out of it and ran to our next door neighbors for help. All of that in probably less than 2 minutes. By that time, the side of the house I was in was ingulfed. Thank you for your kind comment. It means a lot to me. ((Hugs)) xoxo
🙂
PJ you are brave!
Stay Blessed
Honestly, you really never know how brave you are until faced with life and death. Thank you for reading. You stay blessed too.
You are brilliant, and I adore you. THank you for the wonderful message!
Ahhh, thank you Colleen! I appreciate you saying that and I adore you too! I really do. ❤ ❤
Words of wisdom…
Thank you Roger. 🙂
Haha, perfect reply PJ 😀 . I mean they could have even said 1 or two atleast, but who waits to grab five things when there’s a fire?! 🙂
You made me laugh. I know! Go figure…??? Five things?? WordPress burned up all their clients. Hahaha
Haha 😂 😂
What a nightmare to lose your home and everything in it… thank God Priceless Joy survived 😉
Yes, it was. I had closed my bedroom door which I usually didn’t do. Had I not, the smoke would have killed me.
OMG oddly, I’ve started closing all my doors, even the bedroom. Previously with Mr & Mrs pussy cat’s, we were not permitted to close doors just in case they wanted to roam freely around their castle. It was always cold in here, but this year is nice and toastie… God rest my little pussies 😉
I agree, may they rest in blissful peace. 🙂 I thought you lived alone, do you live in a group home?
Lol heaven forbid I live with anyone!! I live blissfully alone… when I said “we” were not permitted to close doors, I meant the cats didn’t permit jack and I to close doors 🙂 because they liked to roam freely I guess you could say I lived in a group home for animals and they are always the boss!!
Haha! I thought about you last night and thought, I bet he is talking about him and Jack as “we”.
Lol… we do seem to confuse one another! Jack and I are always the royal WE
I completely understand! I have a little dog and she pretty much rules my home too. She’s my little companion that never gives me a pain in my neck. LOL!
Have you considered getting another cat? I have. I want another cat but I want to make sure I get it at a time I will feel safe that someone won’t get rid of it underneath me.
OMG Joy, if someone had touched my cats…well, I wouldn’t be responsible for my actions. The young lad from the local pub once set his dog on little Missy. Before I knew where I was, I was in the pub bar shouting the odds and thought it weird when people were looking down until I realised I was still in my pyjamas and slippers 😉 Can you get your animals chipped over there? Over here, if you take a new animal to a vet, they automatically scan it for a chip to make sure you haven’t nicked it, but then that’s dependant on the thieving gits taking it to a vet. It would break my heart, so I do understand your fears. I think it is still too soon for me to consider another cat. I may also move in a years time, so it might be best for me to wait. Would you get a kitten?
I would be open to a kitten or an older cat. If Bria is still alive it would be best for me to get a kitten. That is one thing that holds me back, Bria is not nice to other animals. She isn’t terribly mean just possessive of her food/treats and me. She growls at them. lol
My two cats were very jealous when Jack arrived, both just wanted to attack him and their determination to get a hold of this little puppy was frightening. I couldn’t leave them alone for a long time. If I was doing it again, I’d go for the kitten… maybe you might find Bria has a maternal side 😉
I have hoped that! I brought in a little kitten about 6 months ago and she was mean to it (growling at it) so I found it a home where it wouldn’t have to deal with that. The little kitten you sometimes see in the top right hand corner of my posts, is that little kitten. The church I was telling you about…they are the ones that I believe that got rid of my cat. AAARRRGGG!
nasty horrid bitter people give the church a bad name. Makes me wonder what goes on in their head. Today I heard on the news about two people from the Christian church of almighty God, beat a woman to death on the street in front of her 6 yr old son because she wouldn’t give them her phone number
OMG where was that at? Beat her because she wouldn’t give them her phone number? I hope they all get put in prison for doing that to her.
I caught the end of the report but sure it said china. I defend their right to believe in what they will so long as they also defend mine, but sadly that is seldom the case with certain religions… maybe most religions.
Sadly yes.
About the micro chip, my vet wasn’t able to do it. It wasn’t until AFTER she went missing that they were finally able to do it. I really wanted to chip her and could have gone to another vet but I kept putting it off. I kick myself now that I didn’t. Like you said, it would depend if the people who have her now (if she is still alive) would take her to the vet and I highly doubt it.
