Assignment #15 – Voice

Today’s Prompt: Think about an event you’ve attended and loved. Your hometown’s annual fair. That life-changing music festival. A conference that shifted your worldview. Imagine you’re told it will be cancelled forever or taken over by an evil corporate force.

How does that make you feel?

——————————————————-

For some reason, this assignment has given me absolutely no inspiration. I have racked my brain trying to think up something to write about that might show me my voice. I am curious, I want to know what my voice “sounds” like. I also want to know what it “sounds” like to those who read my stories and posts?

Do I come across harsh, negative, and abrasive?

Do I come across wishy-washy and fake?

Do I come across as a know-it-all?

Since I cannot think up something to write about that will reveal my “voice” to me, please tell me what my “voice” sounds like to you?

  1. I think your voice is straight forward. It’s introspective and raw. Those can be good things. I don’t think you are fake or wishy-washy (from what I’ve read). Keep it simple, keep it raw. Just my thoughts.

  2. That is a hard assignment! And as far as your voice, I love it! It’s real, it’s full of honesty, it’s fun. Your stories share a little bit of everything which inspire others to start writing. Keep up what you’re doing! 😊

  3. I’m going out on a limb here. Your voice is measured. At times. Free and lively, There are pieces that hold back too. I guess you sound like a live person. I like you vary lengths. Easy to read.

  4. I think your voice is kind and caring and full of love and encouragement to others. You are always so sweet to me and write a kind note every morning which i love. 😍. I would like to learn more about you and your feelings. your voice is guarded when it comes to sharing YOU. I would love to hear your voice. What makes you tick. Just my two cents my friend. Hugs from mars. 😘

    • Thank you so much Jodi. That is a lot for me to try and live up to. LOL! I am honored that you think so highly of me. Yes, I think I am guarded and I think the reason for that is because of the world wide web. I have opened up more than I ever thought I would. As I get more comfortable, I will open up even more. I am so glad we are friends. ❤ ❤ ((Hugs))

  5. I had a lot of trouble with this one as well. I slept on it and went from there. With most other prompts the ideas came quick. Not so with this one.
I found my voice when I read it out loud over and over again. instead of administrator I changed it to administrat-er. because that is how it “sounded” when I said it
I am so glad I was alone all day. Hubby would have gotten nervous listening to me read out loud all day.

  6. Your voice….I hear sincerity, kindness, love, and a definite concern for others. You have a great imagination and a way to effectively share it with others. Keep on shining. 🌞

  7. Let’s see, there’s definitely humor in it 😀 and honesty too. And lots and lots of creativity, sometimes in a simple way and other times with a huge Twist. 🙂

  8. We can phrase our writings anyway we choose, to show truth, tell lies, hide lies, expose or obscure our heart strings, or, horror of horrors, really be ourselves. To me, you come across as a straight forward, thinking, articulate writer who actually has something to say about things that are important to you. That’s all that matters. You are the one who truly knows you. If you are true to yourself, then the ‘voice’ is purely a distraction for us. As I read what you have written, your true self alone will suit me down to the ground. Just don’t change a thing.

  9. PJ, your voice is well-honed as evidenced in your flash fiction. I am not great at describing it but I would recognize your writing if it was anonymously entered somewhere. As for the 101 assignment, I did not do a couple because they felt too elementary. My post for 101 combining days 14 &15 comes up Monday. The comments entered by your readers are very supportive and all true 🙂

    • Thank you Terri! I appreciate your feedback. 🙂 I agree with you about some of the assignments. I don’t blame you for combining some I might do the same in the future.

  10. I wouldn’t say you sound any of those things in your questions. Being from the Uk it’s difficult to imagine US accents, but I imagine you sound clear and straightforward, a bit like the momma from the Waltons (they were a lovely family who lived on a farm on the prairie). You always have a nice positive perspective and humble and very caring.

  11. I agree with Chatter Master and Irod…. Your voice has honesty, reality and generosity all together and occasionally giving others smiles or courage 🙂

  12. PJ, I’m late to the party, but to me your voice is thoughtful and encouraging, sometimes with a hilarious degree of sass. It’s a positive voice 🙂

I would love to read your thoughts...
