FFfAW – The Lake House

Listening to the rain tapping the roof, Carol remembered how peaceful that sound once made her feel. She wanted to feel that peace again.

Jason took that peace away from her. It's his fault she fell in love with him and why all she felt was raging jealousy.

Jason wouldn't allow himself to be tied to just one woman.

Not being able to take it anymore, she lured Jason to the basement, shot him and shoved his body into the waiting grave. The large steamer trunk fit over the top just fine.

Finally, peace has found her once again.

This is my 100 word submission for Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers Challenge. Louise, with The Storyteller's Abode, has provided our prompt photo this week. Thank you Louise. The challenge gives us a photo prompt and approximately 150 words with which we write our stories. It's fun and addicting and all are welcome to participate. For more information, click here.

  1. Good story. Seems like Jason had it coming to him. You push someone to the limit too much and sometimes a nice person can do a very bad thing.

  2. That Jason deserved it! He failed her first! Great story! ๐Ÿ˜€ Maybe an extension of the story would be Jason’s ghost haunted the house…LOL ๐Ÿ˜›

  3. Wow, you really went dark with this one, Joy! She even blames him for her crazy feelings — which is pretty consistent with the rest of her behavior. Yikes! Hope she gets the help she needs before she falls for someone else (and vice versa).

  4. She really took drastic measures to get her peace back! He was a real so, and so…but she’s even worse. I hope no one else gets in the way of her “peace” . Great story, Joy.

  5. Well I did NOT see that coming!!!! I think that she found peace in that says a whole lot more about this story that we haven’t heard yet! Well done Priceless. This could be a great send off to a deeper story!

  6. WOW! I didn’t expect that from you. I must have gotten used to your “happily ever after” stories that I tease you about. Very powerful and grim. Mine was the fairy tale ending tonight. LOL:)

  7. A very dark story, PJ! I wonder how long it will be before someone finds his body…? Maybe she’ll find peace in a prison cell! A great story. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Yes! I think if she was thinking “normally” she would have but she’s “off her rocker.” LOL! Besides, it would not have been as much fun to write. ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. Holy Smokes PJ!!! I read your story first then scrolled down to the picture and wondered how did you go from such a serene, peaceful looking picture to such a dark, morbid story. I thought, oh my I certainly don’t want to make PJ angry..hee hee…Excellent writing, completely drew me in, loved the dark side for a change!! Take that Jason!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. I haven’t read all the comments but I’m sure all the women are cheering Carol on. It’s always the guy’s fault! He made her fall in love with him, he took her peace away, he put the gun in her hand. So who do we guys have to blame? I, for one, blame my mother! ๐Ÿ™‚ Oh, yeah, great story. (I really did enjoy it!)

    • LOL! I don’t think most women think this way, only the ones that are “unwell” in the head. haha! (In fact, just about all of the women that read this story didn’t like the ending). Of course, I know you are just kidding. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. That was a story with a punch, PJ. Jealousy definitely got the better of her and led her to do something totally irrational and seemingly out of character. I wonder how long it will take her to regret what she’s done. Great story. ๐Ÿ™‚

I would love to read your thoughts...
