My Friend, Monte

Every summer, I go to a dude ranch in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado where I have access to their ponies twenty-four hours a day. My daily routine is to ride Monte, my favorite pony, to a picnic area next to Lemon Lake. Monte lazily grazes while I eat my lunch. I take in the beauty of the lake and mountains and breathe the crisp clean mountain air. Monte looks up at me and laughs, as though he knows what I am thinking. I laugh back. He lazily goes back to his grazing. I go back to my thinking.

  1. Nice story. Great relationship between human and animal and it portrays a certain amount of understanding between them. She loves being there and so does Monte. They have lunch together…yet, separate. Great job, Joy! πŸ™‚

  2. Your story sounds so peaceful and relaxing. I like horses but I have never had much of a chance to be around them or around them much. I guess when I did get a chance to see them I liked them because they reminded me of dogs, pushing and nuzzling their muzzle into you. Nice take on the prompt!

  3. Good story. Your’s are always so uplifting. Mine was about fighting ponies because I was in a strange mood. I had heard from my ex that my cat, Cleo, had died yestday and was weepy, sad, and angry all day about it. Today I am a little more settled. Sorry to drone on and on. 😦

I would love to read your thoughts...
