FFfAW – Spanky

My sweet dachshund, Spanky, loved going to the woods and hills and run. We use to take him there when we went hiking. That was his favorite thing to do. I loved seeing him so happy.

When Spanky passed away, we decided to bury him in the hills that he loved so much. We carefully buried him and put rocks over his grave so other animals wouldn't dig up his remains.

I know that Spanky is still there running in the hills with his friends. It brings me peace to think of him running in those beautiful hills and woods.

Thank you Pamela S. Canepa for our photo prompt this week.

This is my 100 word true story for the flash fiction challenge, Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers. We are given a photo and approximately 75-175 words with which to create our stories. It's fun and everyone is invited to participate. For more information, click HERE.

  1. It doesn’t surprise me that you were inspired to write this sweet memory. I know as much fun as you are having with your new little sweetheart, Bria will always be in your heart as will Spanky. Beautiful PJ! ❤

    • Yes, you are right. They will always be in my heart! Spanky I got from the animal shelter and Bria was dumped on our block. My neighbor brought her over to me. I tried to find her owners and no one would claim her, so I claimed her. She was only about 7-8 weeks old. I took her to the vet right away to get her puppy shots but she still came down with Parvo. The vet helped her recover from it which is a miracle. My little Sugar sleeps with me at night (because she can climb up onto my bed). When I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and come back to bed she acts like she hasn’t seen me all day! LOL!!

  2. awwww. this is sad yet sweet too. Spanky might not be around anymore but her memories live on and your love for her will never fade. 🙂 love this PJ!

  3. Aww.. such a touching tale PJ. I agree with Rosema. Spanky might not be around anymore but she will not be forgotten. 🙂

  4. A lovely story, PJ, even more so because it’s a true one. It’s funny how these prompts can even stir our memories. I can visualise Spanky enjoying himself in those woods from your description. It’s also evident from your writing that he was very missed once he’d passed away.

    • Thank you so much Millie. Yes, he was very much loved and missed when he passed away. You’re right, these prompts can really stir up our memories. It felt nice to write about Spanky.

I would love to read your thoughts...
