FFfAW — Tropical Snow

Have you ever heard the term, “A cold day in hell?” The Tropics are a far cry from hell, but it snowed in the Tropics!

Children are outside with homemade sleds and families are building snowmen. Everyone is having a ball from this unlikely snowstorm.

The sandy beaches are covered with snow. People are at the beach building snow castles instead of sand castles. The bikini has been replaced with sweaters, long leggings and boots complimented with gloves and warm hats.

It's certainly not a cold day in hell but it sure is a cold day! We're having a ball!

FFfAW – My Pretty Garden

My backyard is my favorite place to sit. I enjoy sitting out in the open air and reading a book or hosting my friends with a cup of coffee or tea. I spend many enjoyable moments in my backyard. There were many great memories made in my backyard garden “room.”

That changed when I met Cecilia. I enjoyed her company and liked her right away. I felt we would become good friends and spend many hours enjoying each other's company in my backyard. Little did I know that she was trying to get rid of me and take over my home and my pretty backyard.

I had to kill her. Too bad. We could have been good friends.

FFfAW-Tree Hugger

I am an avid tree hugger. I hug them because I want to save them from the death of the loggers.

Sadly, hugging trees doesn't help save them, no matter how hard I hug.

I write letters to the editor of newspapers where the logging is taking place but it seems to do no good. Beautiful trees that have been growing for hundreds of years are being cut down.

Tomorrow, I am chaining myself to one of the trees they are going to cut down. They will have to kill me to get the tree. Maybe now they will listen!

FFfAW-True Love?

Adam asked me to meet him for coffee and I gladly did so. I was happy because I thought that meant that he was sweet on me as I certainly was sweet on him.

My hopes were up. Finally! He has noticed me. It was about time!

As soon as I sat down I noticed his sad face.

“What's wrong, Adam?”

Claudia has left me.”

My heart sank. (Who was Claudia?)

“Will you help me get her back?”

(What was I suppose to say? Sure I will!?)

“Hell No!” I answered.

I then got up and quickly walked out.

FFfAW – Life

I sat in the waiting room staring at a picture hanging on the wall. It seemed so dark and dismal to me. I asked myself, “Why would they put such a dark picture on the wall of a hospital?”

My mother was in surgery and we waited impatiently for any news from the doctor. It felt like waiting for paint to dry.

Then it occurred to me. Of course! Everyone has dark moments in life and coming through those dark times makes us a better person. The picture stopped troubling me at that point.

Suddenly the doctor walked in,

“She is going to be okay,” he said, smiling.

Thank you Yarnspinner for our photo prompt this week!

My mother has been ill recently so I decided to write a story around her. (She didn't have surgery). But she is doing a little better.

FFfAW – She Can’t Sing

My mother thinks she can sing. My dad plays the piano while she “sings.” I have to close my ears. My dad told me to stop doing that because it will upset mother.

My dad placates to her and expects me to do the same thing. We have to make mother think she can sing.

She tells us when she gets good enough she is going to try and find a job as a singer.

Let's hope she will finally get good enough. Until then, I am wearing ear plugs!

FFfAW-The Accident

I was anxious to get to the concert before it got too crowded. Because I knew I was in a hurry I was careful not to go over the speed limit.

The car came up behind me quickly. They definitely were in a hurry. They must be going to the same concert. Suddenly, they were right on my tail. It made me nervous. What if the car in front of me slammed on his brakes?

He not only is right on my tail, he is trying to pass me and the cars are coming from the other direction. My hands grip the steering wheel even tighter.

Suddenly, he passed. I wanted to close my eyes and not see what was surely going to happen. It was terrible.

I pull over to the side of the road and wait for the state police to arrive. After all, I am a witness.

FFfAW – Forever Lovers

Randall and Susie were boyfriend and girlfriend. Susie loved going with Randall in his car where they would stop at a local drive-in and get a Coke and fries. Next they would go out to the woods and park where they would smooch for an hour before he had to take her back home.

One day Randall and Susie left to go get a Coke and fries but they never came home. Their parents, friends, and police led an all out search for them for seven days but neither they nor their bodies were ever found…

Until fifty years later. The old rusted car was found among overgrown plant growth with two skeletons in the front seat holding hands. They are forever lovers.

FFfAW – Learning to Play

“Plunk, plunk, plunk”

“Keep practicing!” Mother told me.

“Plunk, plunk, plunk.”

All I could think about was going outside to play with my friends. I didn't want to be practicing on this ol' piano.

I let out a deep sigh and continued to plunk on the piano knowing the song I was playing didn't sound like a song at all. Maybe mother will get tired of listening to this horrible piano playing and let me go outside to play.

“Plunk, plunk, plunk.”

“Alright Roddy, you can go outside to play now.”

Yes!! It worked.

FFfAW-Myrtle

My name is Myrtle and I stand in this pen day after day looking out at the green grassy field. I want so badly to go out and eat that tasty grass and romp in those grassy fields. My heart is out there and not in this stuffy ol' pen.

My mother tells me to not let that beautiful green grass fool me because the grass is NOT greener on the other side of the fence. I want to believe her, I really do, but my heart is out there in that beautiful green field.

Alas, I will never know.
