Nurturing Thursday

Every Thursday, Becca Givens, author of the fabulous blog, On Dragonfly Wings with Buttercup Tea, hosts Nurturing Thursday. Nurturing Thursday is a way for each of us to nurture ourselves and each other while in this hectic and sometimes chaotic life we live.

If you are interested in joining Nurturing Thursday, please read her post:

This is my Nurturing Thursday contribution. I chose this because lately, I have had to set boundaries in order to “nurture myself.”

New Blog Title!

For those of you who read and/or follow my blog will notice that today I have changed my blog title from “Bleeding my Emotions” to “Inspiring my Emotions.”

Having the title of “Bleeding my Emotions” made me feel I needed to keep my blog to more depressive type posts. In reality, I really want to try and stay away from bleeding heart posts. Although I still want to post more about my struggle OUT of mental illness in my future posts, I do want to keep it on a more positive light.

It is my hope that my new blog “direction” will enlighten, entertain, amuse, as well as, be endearing to you in the future. After all, you are the one who I write to in the first place. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Freedom the Eagle and Jeff

Freedom and Jeff

Freedom and I have been together 11 years this summer.

She came in as a baby in 1998 with two broken wings.

Her left wing doesn't open all the way even after surgery, it was broken in 4 places.

She's my baby.

When Freedom came in she could not stand and both wings were broken.

She was emaciated and covered in lice.

We made the decision to give her a chance at life, so I took her to the vet's office.

From then on, I was always around her.

We had her in a huge dog carrier with the top off,

and it was loaded up with shredded newspaper for her to lie in.

I used to sit and talk to her, urging her to live, to fight;

and she would lay there looking at me with those big brown eyes.

We also had to tube feed her for weeks.

This went on for 4-6 weeks, and by then she still couldn't stand.

It got to the point where the decision was made to euthanize her if she couldn't stand in a week.

You know you don't want to cross that line between torture and rehab, and it looked like death was winning.

She was going to be put down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in on that Thursday afternoon.

I didn't want to go to the center that Thursday, because I couldn't bear the thought of her being euthanized;

but I went anyway, and when I walked in everyone was grinning from ear to ear.

I went immediately back to her cage; and there she was, standing on her own, a big beautiful eagle.

She was ready to live. I was just about in tears by then. That was a very good day.

We knew she could never fly, so the director asked me to glove train her.

I got her used to the glove, and then to jesses,

and we started doing education programs for schools in western Washington .

We wound up in the newspapers, radio (believe it or not) and some TV.

Miracle Pets even did a show about us.

In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

I had stage 3, which is not good (one major organ plus everywhere), so I wound up doing 8 months of chemo.

Lost the hair – the whole bit. I missed a lot of work.

When I felt good enough, I would go to Sarvey and take Freedom out for walks.

Freedom would also come to me in my dreams and help me fight the cancer.

This happened time and time again.

Fast forward to November 2000; the day after Thanksgiving,

I went in for my last checkup.

I was told that if the cancer was not all gone after 8 rounds of chemo,

then my last option was a stem cell transplant.

Anyway, they did the tests; and I had to come back Monday for the results.

I went in Monday, and I was told that all the cancer was gone.

So the first thing I did was get up to Sarvey and take the big girl out for a walk.

It was misty and cold.

I went to her flight and jessed her up, and we went out front to the top of the hill.

I hadn't said a word to Freedom, but somehow she knew.

She looked at me and wrapped both

her wings around me to where I could feel them pressing in on my back

(I was engulfed in eagle wings), and she

touched my nose with her beak and stared into my

eyes, and we just stood there like that

for I don't know how long .

That was a magic moment.

We have been soul mates ever since she came in.

This is a very special bird.

On a side note: I have had people who were sick come up to us when we are out,

and Freedom has some kind of hold on them.

I once had a guy who was terminal come up to us and I let him hold her.

His knees just about buckled and he swore he could feel her power course through his body.

I have so many stories like that..

I never forget the honor I have of being so close to such a magnificent spirit as Freedom.

Hope you enjoyed this!

But they that wait upon the Lord

shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up with wings as eagles;

they shall run, and not be weary;

and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

(I am not the author of this post. I am sharing this post from an email I received. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did).

That’s Where I Want To Be

If there is a place where one can live where no one judges you or others; where they don't point the invisible finger and say, “I heard this about you, or, “this” or “that” about you; where you can live in peace and harmony and be happy with who you are. That's where I want to be.

If there is a world where everyone respects one another, where there are no wars or no fighting, no evil, and no judging. That's where I want to be.

A place where I can go and there is no baggage on my back, no skeletons in my closet, no gossip around each corner, no “better than thou” attitudes, that's where I want to be.

In this world we are all so busy judging others that we don't have time to be making changes to ourselves to become a better person. We are busy gossiping about others and probably adding a little bit more to the tale to make it even juicier. We are busy hiding our own imperfections while callously pointing out the imperfections of others.

What would happen if everyone in this world started being only concerned about bettering themselves?

What would happen if we all stopped being so critically judgmental of one another?

Would your space in this world be better?

I know mine would.

If this world cannot be such a place, then I want to find such a place because that's where I want to be.

I am ashamed to admit this, but I do not know the proper way to imbed an Award to my post and blog. I take a screen print, then cut and paste. Wonderful Blogs

There are some very lovely blogs in WordPress. I would like to introduce you to some wonderful blogs and I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do. (In case you have not yet read their posts).

Instead of describing the blog of the first blogger I want to introduce, I will use her own words because I would not be able to describe it better:

“The most powerful joy, freedom, and purpose are found not on any mountaintop. They're found while lying face-down in the valley of grief, when all is lost. There, we find our Creator and our soul. And the joy found in that moment changes us so truly, that we might never want to leave the valley again…” ~Lori Lara~

http://lorilara.com

I have introduced this blogger before but I did not give a description of her blog. I asked her to describe her blog and this is what she said, “Random ramblings from a renewed mind.” However, I would like to describe her blog further. She is a wife and a mother of four children. Her posts are fresh, sometimes humorous, and always about her deep and imaginative thinking. She quickly captures the hearts of her readers:

http://talesfromaslightlystressedmother.wordpress.com

This blogger is an artist and her blog is filled with her beautiful paintings and wonderful photographs. Her writing is always interesting and beautifully written. She has a magical and endearing way of capturing the hearts of her readers:

http://artourway.wordpress.com

Through honesty and openness about her life, her imagination, and her photographs, this blog writer captures the hearts of her readers and pulls them into her reality in a very endearing way. Her posts are sometimes humorous, sometimes reflective, and always refreshing as she writes about her life, her feelings and her surroundings.

http://quietdesperation.wordpress.com

Joy takes us through her life of living with intense pain from fibroid adhesions. She describes her daily life of living with pain and teaches her readers exactly what adhesions are. She is a strong person with a kind and loving heart. She teaches us about “silent” diseases and of the battles of which their sufferers must endure. Her honesty endears her readers to her and to her writing.

http://joynpain2.wordpress.com

My descriptions of these blogs do not do these writers enough justice, therefore, I hope you will find out for yourselves.

I will continue to surf through WordPress blogs and introduce you to blogs that I find enjoyable reading.
