FFfAW – Strange New World

When I saw the milk cartoon radio, I knew I was in another world. Where I come from, milk cartoons are not radios, doughnuts are not recorders and sandwiches are not cameras. Yes, I was in a new world, one quite different from the world I am from.

I needed to figure out why I am here. Am I a spy? I thought about it for a long time but couldn't figure out who or why I was spying so I must not be a spy.

I watched the man use the radio by drinking the milk. His body turned into the radio.

Now I get it. When the person drinks the milk, his body becomes the radio. When they eat the doughnut, their body becomes the recorder. When they eat the sandwich, their body becomes the camera.

Yep, this is a strange, new world.

FFfAW – Nightmares

“Shoes, shoes, everywhere I look there are shoes. But not just any shoes, sandles to be exact.”

“Look, this is just a dream, you are dreaming about shoes.”

“That's all I have dreamed of since I took that job as a shoe salesman on the beach. I can't stand it anymore!”

“It will get better. The beach will close down In a couple of months for the winter season.”

“Thank goodness for that! I have two more months of this shoe nightmare. What will be next, I wonder? Christmas Season sales…”

“Toys, toys, everywhere are toys…”

Damn! Another nightmare awaits!”

FFfAW – Heartbreak

Margie stared into her half empty glass as tears trickled down her cheek. The jukebox was playing “Unchained Melody,” and she thought of Bobby and how he had left her for another girl.

The alcohol was suppose to medicate her and make her feel better but it was only making her feel worse. She had come to the pier to enjoy the evening and forget about Bobby. Unfortunately, neither had worked.

As she drank her drink and cried her tears, she saw a girl and boy holding each other out on the pier and she felt her heart break again.

FFfAW – Will You Marry Me?

“I can't marry you right now,” I told David after he asked me the question. He didn't say a word, he just got up and left, leaving me alone and confused.

He didn't say where he was going and I had made up my mind that I would find him. I drove all over town as my eyes fogged up from the tears.

My heart was broken. Maybe I was too hasty in my decision. After all, I can't imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone but David. He didn't understand that my first marriage didn't end so well, leaving me shy from marrying again.

I have made up my mind. I will keep looking until I find him and tell him that I would marry him after all. I can see clearly now.

FFfAW – Sunday Drive

My husband and I decided to take a country drive one weekend. We wanted to see all the farms in the area and just enjoy a Sunday outing.

We saw many beautiful farmhouses and this one in particular was my favorite. The fog has settled peacefully on the field waiting for the sun to burst into a spectacular sunshiny day.

The drive was peaceful and relaxing and we enjoyed seeing all the gorgeous farms, deep down wishing we could own one.

Who knows? Maybe one day our dreams will come true.

FFfAW – What Job?

It was just a figurine – a figurine of a dog with a hat on. But there was something creepy about this dog and I couldn't put my finger on it until I saw it laughing one day. I jumped and screamed!

Suddenly, my boss walked in and started laughing, “I see you met my little dog, Roddy.”

“What the hell,” I said, “That little figurine started laughing at me!”

Chills started going up and down my spine. “This isn't right,” I croaked, “Figurines aren't suppose to come to life.”

“Well, Roddy isn't just any figurine. He can become very lively.”

Just about that time, Roddy started barking and I ran like hell.

I really didn't want that damn job anyway.

FFfAW – The Cruise

My wife and I have been saving for a cruise for years. We were determined to go on a cruise in 5 years so we scrimped and saved until we finally had enough.

A week before we left I became very ill and would have to postpone my side of the trip. I didn't want my wife to miss out on something she had looked forward to for 5 years. I convinced her she should go without me.

I had mixed feelings when I saw her off. I felt sad for me but happy for her. I already miss her.

FFfAW – The Empty Bench

Julie and I came to this bench in the park almost every warm Sunday during our 48 year marriage. I have a lot of fond memories here. We would bring a sack lunch and after we ate we would feed the birds and enjoy being outdoors and being together.

Julie became sick and we found out it was an aggressive cancer. She died six months later.

I continued coming to this park and would remember my beautiful wife, Julie.

Then I became sick with cancer and I died ten months later.

Now, Julie and I are together again…

FFfAW – Dream Vacation

I was over the moon! Finally, I was on my dream vacation to China. A place I wanted to visit all my life.

My first order of business was to go shopping. So many fabulous bargains can be found in China.

I walked into the shoe store and two gentlemen came over to assist me immediately. They were dressed very well and both were so nice! In fact, they even talked to me in English. I was so surprised!

I asked to try on a pair of red high heels and they immediately brought me the shoes to try on. When I put them on my feet I felt like I was in another world. A world I have never been in before.

Suddenly, the shoes became glass slippers. One of the men turned into a prince and the other man turned into a mouse dressed as a coachman. What is this? I was in the Cinderella fairytale!

I quickly took off the shoes and ran out the door!

Fairy tales belong in story books.

FFfAW – Tic Tac Toe

My best friend in the whole wide world, Larna, was X and I was O. We were in a game of tic tac toe. It was important that I win. I must win! She had a new 10 speed bike and would let me ride it if I won the game.

I concentrated on winning this game, keeping that beautiful blue bike in the back of my mind.

She wrote in her X's and I quickly wrote in my O's.

Finally!! I won! I get to ride her new 10 speed!

Then I realized… she let me win the game.
